Poor Gunners dumped out

A week, as they say, is a long time in football. Arsenal would have certainly had this famous phrase ringing in their ears on Tuesday night as they went from beating the mighty Bayern Munich to being dumped out of the League Cup 3-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday exactly seven days later.

This night had a disastrous feeling about it as early as the fourth minute when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reported a tightening of his hamstring and had to be replaced

Arsenal 2-1 Everton

Arsenal rounded off a perfect week on Saturday with a hard fought victory over Everton which saw the Gunners move into top spot, albeit temporarily.

The victory was all the more impressive, given the fact that the team had put in so much hard work and effort to see off Bayern Munich in mid-week, while Everton had the entire week to focus on their preparations.

After great disappointment in the Champions League on Tuesday night, Arsenal needed to produce a much improved performance against Manchester United on Sunday. They had let the fans down with their tepid display in Europe’s top competition but against United each and every player in a red and white shirt responded in the perfect manner as the Gunners ran riot.

Right from the very first whistle, Arsenal were a team transformed.
